Holding you close (in love and friendship)
2021I made this work during the lockdown, when suddenly it wasn't natural anymore to give someone a hug, let alone to see and visit eachother.... During the lockdown we were all looking for alternatives, different ways to stay connected... Including frame.
Can't see, can't hear
2016How often it happens that we are living in the hectic pace of the day. Just thinking of everything that has happened or allready thinking about tomorrow. Not being able to see one another, let alone take the time to listen and really be there. Including frame.
Together
2016A painting with a lot of different figures. All different in shape, but all alike in colouring (the inside). A work about focussing on the similarities instead of differences, about respect and connection.
Let it go
2014A crouched figure at the front, the other figure seems to look over her shoulder, while starting to walk the other way. It looks like there is a struggle going on matching the theme of letting go ... Something is holding you back, but in the end you really have to let go...to be able to move on.
Let me be
2014The figure in the painting is sitting alone, in a dark place, away from the light...Withdrawn, not open to make any contact. A painting about needing time alone, no stimuli, no distractions...just some time to come to rest
Together alone
2014The figures in the painting are together, sitting next to eachother, but both withdrawn. Being together..yet alone. You cannot really connect with another person unless you can really open up and show your vulnerability...
Without words
2014- SOLD -
Ondergaan (Going under)
2013Selfportrait. For me this work is about the feeling that everything happens to you, life happens to you. You're loosing control over your life and it feels like there is no end to this....it goes on and on...feels like going under...like the figure in the painting seems to go down, under the weight on her shoulder...
Draagkracht (Strength)
2013- NOT FOR SALE - Selfportrait. I made this painting after a really difficult episode of my life. It's about how much you can bear and how strong you can be, allthough when looking back you didn't feel that strong at that time at all... The New York based composer/pianist Margin Alexander composed a beautiful piece of music, inspired by this painting.
Je kan niet alles dragen (You can't carry everything)
2013Selfportrait. A symbolic painting with the figure starting to break due to the weight of the globe she is carrying. When you carry the burdens of everyone around you, take care of everybody but yourself...it will eventually break you.
Dancing women
2012Painting inspired by a photograph and previous work
